Discription:
The research project aimed to investigate the effect of copper and zinc composition on the mechanical properties of brass alloys. The objectives of the project were to determine the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation of brass alloys and to analyze their microstructure using optical microscopy.
Methodology:
The project involved preparing brass alloy samples with varying copper and zinc compositions using the casting method. Tensile testing was conducted using a universal testing machine (UTM) to determine the tensile strength, yield strength, and elongation. Optical microscopy was used to analyze the microstructure of the alloys.
Result and Discussion:
The results showed that the tensile strength and yield strength of brass alloys increased with increasing copper content, while the elongation decreased with increasing zinc content. The microstructural analysis revealed a uniform distribution of alpha and beta phases.
Key Highlights and Experience Gained:
This project provided hands-on experience with casting and tensile testing techniques, improved understanding of the relationships between composition, microstructure, and mechanical properties, and developed skills in data analysis and interpretation. The key highlights of the project include improved understanding of the mechanical properties of brass alloys, optimized composition for improved tensile strength and yield strength, and uniform distribution of alpha and beta phases.
